I was again procrastinating assignments this morning when a conversation crossed my mind; so as to set the scene:
It was 7:30am(ish) on a wednesday morning 3 weeks ago there was bout 6-10 guys talking and chilling with coffee after man-prayer (HOORAH!) and Adam brought up a discussion about the new series about to start -Make War!, and we ended up talking about war movies then on to our favourite movies, and Adam says there is such a theme of redemption in every movie, a character doesn't want to help, and is borderline bad, but has a heart change and turns around and saves the day.
Timewarp back to this morning, and I was just pondering this, and I thought yes there is the redemption theme, but more so is there a Saviour theme. What Saviour theme is that Conor? Gee I'm glad you ask! What I mean is, and I've said it before, movies, books, tv shows and a lot of other formats and genre's of entertainment have a main focal character that you warm to because they are a leader and courageous although a little out there and they fight for what is right and good and just, and climax of the movie they die for the cause, only to empower the former followers to greatness and to be deified by said followers.
Now snap to 1882, a book is published: "Die fröhliche Wissenschaft" (The Gay Science...he he) Friedrich Neitzsche states that "Gott ist tot" (God is dead).
Now he doesn't mean dead like how Jesus died on the Cross, but that no more wisdom or knowledge is to be found from religion or any 'god' and as such to take God from a christian belief system the entire system is broken and the purpose and morals are stolen from the ex-believer.
Now again back to current times and we see the world lost and broken, but in it's eyes better than ever, and it is; however it isn't good to one who has had their eyes opened (Christians) as we see that the self-serving, I am my own God, I don't need to be saved way of the world is real and is actually hurting it more than making it 'better'.
So now to tie it all together, in a world that serves self and deifies self and teaches others to do the same, in a world that denies the need for a Saviour, why is it they are so desperate for one? why is it that every movie (within reason) has a saviour figure, why is it that action heroes are so popular and why is it that societies deify sporting figures and 'celebrities' to "heroes" to role models to veritable Saviours. See in my opinion the world doesn't need to be saved from individuality and freedom of thought by so called sporting heroes and celebrity role-models.
The world NEEDS a Saviour, to call them to Him just as they are, to always Love them and always be there for them. I found that in God, in a relationship with Christ. Yet the world has been sold a lie, has been sold a set of rules and values and a 'belief-system' a religion that is not what God intended for us, and with this rip-off religion(s) the world is so turned off of even an idea of a God or Saviour, yet they can't see themselves crying to be saved, and not looking for a Saviour but a hero, another human being who has been deified because of acting or sporting prowess.
I ask you, is there really no need for a God?
Is there really no need for a Saviour?
--open your window, look out with open eyes and open ears and an open heart and hear humanity screaming, crying for a saviour and looking at self and man, instead of looking to God... maybe they need some signs to lead the way..?
